BLUE LIFE

– INDONESIA –

Blue Life – Indonesia was opened in 2017 in the Pulau Banyak archipelago on Sikandang Island in North Sumatra.

We have built the Blue Life beach volunteer centre there, and from the beginning we set ourselves the goal of cleaning beaches and the underwater world from washed-up human waste, especially plastic.

In 2019-2020, we operated with our anti-poaching team Blue Patrol on Bangkaru Island, where we protected sea turtles from poaching. After that, the patrol continued to Sikandang Island. The Covid situation did not favor us, and Blue Patrol had to be cancelled in 2022 due to financial reasons. We continue now with the Blue Patrol Kids educational program, and we would like to return to sea turtle conservation.

Blue Patrol Kids

Blue Patrol Kids educational program operates on Tuangku Island in the Pulau Banyak archipelago. This program works with local teachers and the organization Yayasan Ujung Sialit Belajar, led by our colleague Rius. Today, 91 children are involved in the program, who not only learn about nature and the ocean, but also clean the beaches of plastic waste and take care of the cleanliness of their own village, where they set an example.

The goal of Blue Patrol Kids is to educate a new generation of fishermen who will use the ocean in a sustainable way. You can also support this program.
