We are a team who protects an ocean, islands and underwater world at Pulau Banyak in Sumatra. Our work is tough and dangerous but is worth it as it saves sea turtles, dugongs, and sharks.
Not a long time ago, we used to be villagers and fishermen but now, we return home as Blue Patrol rangers. We are proud of our work which we can do only thanks to your interest and support. We spend twenty days each month cruising through the Indian ocean and checking fishing boats. We guard turtle nests and we hunt for illegal fishing and poaching. It isn’t easy for us to stand against our own people but local nature gets a chance only thanks to our work and your support.
GET INVOLVED IN SEA CONSERVATION TOO
Come and join us in protection of sea turtles and other underwater species against illegal fishing, and of endemic bird species against poaching on a heavenly Bangkaru island. Along with a government agency BKSDA, we protect 6,900 hectares (17,000 acres) of maiden rainforest and coast, including green sea turtle, hawksbill sea turtle, and leatherback sea turtle nests.
We cooperate with a non-governmental Indonesian organization YSAN. This team have an extraordinary interest in saving the sea turtle population against poaching and we are helping them succeed in this activity.
