The novelty of 2024 was the first ecological educational expedition of secondary and primary school teachers from the Czech Republic under the auspices of the Educational Institute of the Central Bohemian Region.
Their 14-day program was designed to introduce teachers and school principals to the ecosystems of the Costa Rican wilderness, focusing on tropical rainforest, montane mist forest, dry tropical forest, tropical freshwater wetlands, volcanic activity, seashores, mangrove forests, the ocean and, of course, the underwater world.
Every day was full of exploration and experiences. During the expedition we visited three national parks - Palo Verde NP, ACG Guanacaste and Tapanti NP. The highlight of the whole expedition was a full day cruise on The Spartan to monitor whales, but this time the teachers were not lucky, which was also caused by strong winds and waves. We couldn't even hear the humpback whales through the hydrophone, which gave us a clear indication that there were no males in Santa Elena Bay at this time. Finally, even females with calves did not appear, which you can't hear with a hydrophone.
The trip included a visit to our Green Life Rainforest Reserve and the Blue Life Ocean Centre. The icing on the cake were trips to the thermal baths in Orosi, or swimming in the Blue River in Guanacaste. We definitely have a lot to build on, which is agreed for 2025 and 2026.We are looking forward to it.
